Objectives of the training

After completion of the training, the attendee will:

  • Be able to create a program according to IEC 61131-3
  • Be able to understand practical advantages of the standard (i.e. documentation and program structure)
  • Be able to read and understand an IEC program
  • Know which language features are IEC compliant and which are vendor specific
  • Have a basic understanding of the activities of PLCopen.

About the Course

IEC 61131-3 is the de facto programming language for industrial controllers, hence it is essential that there is an IEC 61131-3 environment for the processor platform used to create the industrial controller. A standard language like IEC 61131-3 provides many benefits, including,

1. Introduction to the IEC 61131-3 standard: Data declaration Rules for PLC programming program structure

2. Syntax und semantics of the five IEC programming languages:

-Instruction List (IL)

-Structured Text (ST)

-Ladder Diagram (LD)

-Function Block Diagram (FBD)

-Sequential Function Chart (SFC)

-Continuous Function Chart (CFC)

3. I/O Configuration

4. Predefined POUs (libraries)

5. Data types:

Standard data types defined data types (arrays, structures, enumeration types, etc)

6. Visualization:

-Basic elements

-Place holder concept

-Available visualization clients

7. Overview of CoDeSys functions:

-Task Configuration

-Trace Configuration

-Online functionality (breakpoints, forcing of values, etc)

Administration of multiple watchlists and recipes overview of CoDeSys operators (assignments, boolean and bitstring logic, comparisons, selections, REAL operators)

8. Libraries

Overview of the IEC standard  library (string functions, triggers, counters, timers) Creating customized internal libraries.

Training Course Materials:

  • Training materials will be provided in either softcopy or hardcopy
  • A copy of the CoDeSys Development Package (without runtime license) will be provided
  • All samples used in the training will be provided

Additional Requirements:

  • Delegates need to bring along their laptop for hands on practical sessions
